Leeson connection to Murison Scottish Ancestry

When Arthur Frank Vanek and Mona Inez Leeson wed on August 31, 1949 they linked the following family trees, [Maternal ~ Muench and Leeson] [Paternal ~ Vanek and Gremaux].

SCOTTISH HISTORY -- LEESON HERITAGE
Murison Connection

Letter: dated April 29, 1975. From Ellen Gallaher ( COUSIN of Albert E. Leeson on his mother's side.)

Dear Mona

These are the bits and pieces of Murison History I have put together from here and there, some of it are anecdotes that I remember from things told to me in the past, so if it isn't all exactly authentic this will explain the discrepancies.

Mrs. L. E. Pronk (nee Joyce Evelyn Agnes Murison) second daughter of Alexander George Cardno Murison (2nd family) went to Scotland from Sydney Australia in 1971 ... went through the Archives in Edinburgh Scotland and found the information on the ancestry of her Father. I have added the relationship of my Father, James, of all these ancestors and it would be the same relationship as your Grandmother Elizabeth Mackie Murison Leeson.

The names of Robert Mackie Murison, born in 1859, who was a sailor and drowned at sea off the coast of Helueva, Spain, at the age of 39 years; and the name of Elizabeth Mackie Murison, only daughter of Robert and Elizabeth (Mackie) Murison -- Elizabeth's mother, were not mentioned. She was born July 14, 1866. I have added these names.

The research was done starting with Alexander George Cardno Murison and working back through the years, but I have also rewritten it beginning with the Great Great Grandfather in 1744 and working up to Alexander's generation. Hope this will help you trace the ancestry back to that date.

Originally the name Murison was spelled with two 'R's (Murrison) but with the generation including your Grandmother and my Father, they dropped the second 'R' altho my Father in his old age (he lived to be 95) started spelling it with the two 'R's again; however the Australian Murison's and we have always spelled it Murison. I also notice that the Great, Great Grandmother of James, etc., was not given.

The Leeson part is very sketchy as I didn't know too much about Aunt 'Lizzies' family as you can see. I hope you will fill in the discrepancies and let me know the true facts. Mabel and I write to the Australian cousins now and then and that is where I got the information about them. Jessie White has a real bad heart and Joyce has Lukemia so don't know how long they will be around............ love, your cousin, Ellen Gallaher.

THIS IS THE PATERNAL ANCESTRY OF JAMES WILLIAM MURISON and ELIZABETH MACKIE MURISON,

mother
of ALBERT EDWARD LEESON. (ALBERT became the paternal grandfather of the CHESTER FLOYD LEESON line, the MONA INEZ LEESON VANEK line and the CAROL ELIZABETH LEESON KIBBEY line.) After her first husband, Alfred Leeson died, Elizabeth married Jack Roberts on December 8, 1926. She died when a car hit her as she was walking across the street, December 22, 1933, Spokane, Washington.

GEORGE MURIESON in Whiteside, Scotland, had twin sons, WILLIAM and JAMES, baptised November 4, 1744 according to old parochial registers of Rathen.

On December 28, 1775, WILLIAM MURISON and MARY McKAY were married in the Rathen parish, Scotland.

On July 11, 1786 WILLIAM and MARY, in Memsie had a son baptised JOHN.

On April 25, 1816 in the parish of Rathen, Scotland JOHN MURISON and ELSPET SMITH were married. JOHN was 30 years old and an agricultural laborer

JOHN and ELSPET MURISON had a son, ROBERT, born in 1818 in Strichen. JOHN was a Feuar, according to the records, which means that he had a Scottish Land Grant. They also had an older son, JOHN, also born at Strichen. JOHN was married to SOPHIA KINGHORN and was the father of JANE MURISON LEIDTKE, (a cousin of James and Elizabeth Murison). JANE was born in 1863....more about her later. This son JOHN died at age 78 on March 17, 1889 at New Leeds, Kininmouth, Aberdeenshire.

On February 4, 1847, ROBERT MURISON and ISABELLA FAITH, (born in Pitsligo) were married in the Parish of Old Deer. This was recorded at Strichen. To this union were were born:
ISABELLA.......1848
MARGARET.......1849
MARY...........1850
WILLIAM........1851

The 1851 census showed the address: Jackshill and stated that ROBERT was a merchant shoemaker and this family had one servant. This wife, ISABELLA FAITH, apparently passed away about this time, altho there is no record of her death.

February. 3, 1892 ROBERT replied to a letter he had received from JOHN, his daughter Isabella's son. In his letter ROBERT told of having married thirty-five years earlier, on February 3, 1847, and that their daughter Isabella was born on February 3, 1848. Isabella married a MacBain -- and they later dropped the "Mac" from their name, calling themselves "Bain."

On January 11, 1858, at the Free Church of Scotland, Kinglasser, Fraserbutgh, ROBERT MURISON, farmer of 4 acres, merchant and widower, age 40, of Smithyhill, Strichen, was married to ELIZABETH MACKIE, housekeeper, age 3l (?) of Smithyhill, Strichen, oldest daughter of Captain JAMES MACKIE and ELIZABETH BUCHANAN MACKIE. (They also had a son, JAMES MACKIE and a daughter CHRISTIAN (MACKIE) McALLAN, who had a daughter ELLEN McALLAN (this is for whom Ellen Gallaher is named).

The Census Schedule for Birsay gives ROBERT MURISON and Wife, ELIZABETH born April 25, 1825. This census was taken in 1861 and gives ROBERT, age 43, as the head of the house, address, Slinghorn, ELIZABETH, age 36. Proprietor and farmer of four acres. The first four are children of ROBERT and ISABELLA:
ISABELLA....daughter age 13, born in Strichen 1848
MARGARET....daughter age 12, born in Strichen 1849
MARY........daughter age 10, born in Strichen 1851
WILLIAM.....son ......age 8, born in Strichen 1853
ROBERT MACKIE.... son .... born in 1859 (not listed in that census.)
JAMES WILLIAM.......son.......age 1, born at Castle Street in Fraserburgh, January 3, 1860

Both ROBERT and JAMES were sons of ROBERT and ELIZABETH.

The first four offspring listed in that census, children of ROBERT and ISABELLA, are never mentioned again, so it's unknown what happened to them. The compiler of this history first knew of there having been any half sisters or brother when this report from Scotland arrived in Mansfield, Washington in 1971. No mention of them was ever made by Ellen Gallaher's Father, Grandmother or Uncles.

ISABELLA, born February 3, 1848, married a MacBain. (Mac was dropped later). Their children were:
ALEXANDER
JOHN
CATHERINE

CATHERINE married W.A. BISSET at Rathen on October 10, 1895. Their children were:
DOUGLAS
ISABEL BISSET
CATHERINE ANNE CARDNO MACKIE BISSET

The following are the children of ROBERT and ELIZABETH MACKIE MURISON:
